Everyone loves a good discount. In the insurance industry there is certainly no shortage of discount opportunities. It is for this reason that we have decided to create a four-part series on potential insurance discounts that you can be cashing in on to keep more money in your pockets.
In this post we will be going over insurance discounts related to your auto policy based on personal factors. Be sure to ask about these discounts the next time you are looking to update your insurance coverage.
Personal Discounts
Marital Status – Typically if you are married you can get slightly better insurance rates. This is because statistically people who are married are involved in fewer claims.
Retirees – Many people who are retired use their vehicles less frequently, so insurance companies may offer discounts to these people.
Graduated License – As drivers graduate from G1 to G2 licenses and then G2 to G licenses they may qualify for reductions on their insurance.
Driver’s training – If a new driver has taken an approved driver’s training course, then they may save on their auto insurance.
Age – As a young driver you will pay more for insurance, but your rate will go down as you get older. Between the age of 16 to 25 your base rate of insurance will continuously drop. This is why 25 is often seen as an important age for auto insurance.
Good Student – Drivers 25 years old and younger who are enrolled in school can get up to a 10% discount on insurance if they’re average is over a certain grade.
Out-of-town Student – If your child is away from home while studying at university (generally over 100km away from your primary residence) you can inform your insurance company to save on coverage for that child.
Conviction free – If you have no convictions against you on your record an insurance company may give you a discount on your auto insurance.
Close to work – If you have a short commute to and from work then you could be eligible for a short commute discount.
